Hello everyone,
I've expanded my data bank this year, including another chapter into the mix, (Lyon Mt.). Here are the most missed questions of the 2010 Part II exam that we probably all took.
The first thing was that #22 was so poorly written, that we gave credit regardless of the answer chosen.
Most missed question: #70, 47% missed this one. A right handed pitcher is on the rubber, with a runner on second base. After he comes to the stop, the runner breaks toward third, and the pitcher throws the ball to unoccupied third in an attempt to put out the runner. Perfectly legal. Therefore, 'With runners on base, a balk will be declared anytime a pitcher feints or throws to an unoccupied base.', is a FALSE statement. 6-2-4b
Next one: #49, 46%. Not as significant a miss as #70, but still a miss: Substitution rules are IMMEDIATELY in effect when the lineup cards are handed to the plate umpire at the pregame conference. FALSE. Did you ever receive a card from a coach with only eight starters listed? You are not going to accept that card are you? They just put this question on the test so you wouldn't get a 100. 4-1-3
#16, 39%. A defensive player is permitted to wear face/head protection provided the helmet meets the NOCSAE standard. FALSE. This helmet does not need to meet the standard.
#66, 36%. The umpire-in-chief may authorize more warm-up throws because of an injury or inclement weather, but when he does, the replaced pitcher may not return to pitch. TRUE.6-2-2 Exception, 3-1-2
#35, 35%. A player who re-enters the game in the wrong spot in the batting order is considered to be batting out of order. FALSE. This player is considered to be an illegal substitute and the penalty is much harsher. This player is ejected. 2-36-3b
#78, 24%. When an improper batter becomes a proper batter because no appeal is properly made. the next batter shall be the player whose name follows the batter who should have batted but did not. WOW, who wrote that question? This is a FALSE statement. If it's #3's time to bat, but #5 bats instead and no one detects it, then the next batter should be #6. 7-1-1, Penalty 5
And finally, #31, which 21% missed. The ball is declared dead immediately if an infielder intentionally drops an infield fly. FALSE. This is the exception to the rule. 5-1-1j Exception.
Did you notice that all of these questions, except one had false for an answer. I wonder what that means?
Have a good season, it was good seeing you all at the clinics.
